Cleaning & Prevention
Preventative dentistry is the practice of routinely cleaning, examining, and taking care of your teeth in order to prevent issues such as gum disease, cavities and worn enamel. Basic services include dental examinations, x-rays, cleanings, topical application of fluoride, oral hygiene instruction, scaling of teeth, and periodontic services to treat the bone and gum around the tooth.

Cleanings & Prevention
Professional dental cleanings (dental prophylaxis) are usually performed by Registered Dental Hygienists. Your cleaning appointment will include a dental exam and the following: Removal of calculus (tartar): Calculus is hardened plaque that has been left on the tooth for some time and is now firmly attached to the tooth surface.
Dental Exams & Cleaning
A comprehensive dental exam will be performed by your dentist at your initial dental visit. At regular check-up exams, your dentist and hygienist will include the following: Examination of diagnostic x-rays (radiographs): Essential for detection of decay, tumors, cysts, and bone loss. X-rays also help determine tooth and root positions.
Digital X-Rays
Digital radiography (digital x-ray) is the latest technology used to take dental x-rays. This technique uses an electronic sensor (instead of x-ray film) that captures and stores the digital image on a computer. This image can be instantly viewed and enlarged helping the dentist and dental hygienist detect problems easier.
Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride is a mineral that is beneficial for dental health when it is topically applied to teeth. It strengthens and protects the enamel from tooth decay by making teeth less susceptible to acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars. In the past, fluoride was generally used for infants and children ages
Periodontal Deep Cleaning
When periodontal disease progresses to more advanced stages, a special periodontal cleaning called root planing and scaling(deep cleaning) will be recommended. It is usually done one quadrant of the mouth at a time while the area is numb. In this procedure, tartar, plaque, and toxins are removed from above and below the gum line (scaling) and rough
Sealants
A sealant is a thin, plastic coating applied to the chewing surface of molars, premolars and any deep grooves (called pits and fissures) of teeth. More than 75% of dental decay begins in these deep grooves. Teeth with these conditions are hard to clean and are very susceptible to decay.
